May 31: Swimming Up Ballard Avenue

These salmon are set into the sidewalk on Ballard Avenue; their destination is unknown.

May 30: In the Garden

This 3-day weekend provided lots of gardening opportunities. I especially like weeding near something this pretty.

May 29: Another Perspective

I've been mulling over how I might have made the photo of the leafy greens growing in the raised bed more interesting (in keeping with the whole spirit of this project). Here's the outcome.

May 28: The Coat's Off!

The fig tree is leafing out nicely now that the weather is (finally) warming up, and the winter coat is off.

May 27: Tacos for Breakfast

It must be good stuff...there was already a line at 8:30am.

May 26: Green Shopper

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised to see this lady with two full (and heavy) grocery bags emerge from Whole Foods yesterday, secure one to the back of her bike, hang the other on her handlebars, and ride carefully away down the sidewalk. In the rain. I hoped she didn't have too far to go.

May 25: Sneak Peek

I pulled back the row cover for quick bit of weeding last night and was pleased to see the spinach, kale, and bok choy seedlings doing so well in their new raised bed.

May 24: Blue Moon

I was delighted to encounter this beautiful, sweet kitty on my way to work this morning. She lives in the neighborhood but I only see her once in a blue moon. She's so beguiling she made me miss my bus :)

May 23: Wildflower

This is the kind of flower I admire in the right setting, but would look too much like a weed in my garden.

May 22: The Path Not Taken

We were so intent on enjoying the beach we didn't explore the woods behind us. Now I wonder where this path led.

May 21: View from Tolmie

We had a lovely view of the Olympic range from Tolmie Beach. That house on the beach has a lovely view every day of the year, no matter what the weather.

May 20: Beachcombing

We went to Tolmie beach to enjoy the weather, and Katie happily ventured out into the tidal area to look for shells and little marine creatures.

May 19: Color Field

At lunch today, Nancy and I walked over to the Wright Exhibition Space and viewed their current show. It was lovely.

May 18: A Sunny Day at Last!

The light through this chestnut tree makes a lovely green canopy, indeed.

May 16: 2832 NW 58th Street

The house is being painted, so the house numbers have been temporarily relocated to the mailbox post.

May 15: Harbor Steps

May 14: Missed One!

This easter egg is still hiding in plain sight on 58th Street. I didn't check to see if it had anything in it, though.

May 13: Indy

She was happy to see Tyler but not too sure about me; as soon as he went inside and I took this photo she scooted under the nearby fence and was gone.

May 12: Magazines

There's an out-of-the-ordinary selection of reading material at Rudy's Barbershop on Ballard Ave...you might even call it "cutting edge."

May 10: Impressionism On-The-Go

This is a detail from an artwork that is displayed in a variety of outdoor settings around Seattle. I love the brushwork in this section. Tomorrow we'll see the entire work.

May 9: Fledgling

This young robin wasn't too happy about my getting so close, but he wasn't confident enough to fly away.

May 8: Mother's Day

May 7: Greenhouse Window

When we left Seattle in the mid-afternoon the sun was shining, but by the time we arrived in Mt. Vernon there was a steady cold rain. This window in one of Christianson's greenhouses suggests this nursery is wet most of the year.

May 6: Show Off

Here's Red demonstrating her sure-footedness on the picket fence.

May 3: Tulips

This secluded front yard garden in Ballard is particularly lovely right now.

May 2: Apple Blossom

May 1: Petal Cloud Against Blue Sky

It's been so grey for so long we'd forgotten the sky could be that blue. Our cherry tree still has abundant bloom after its pruning last week.

April 30: 180 Degrees

A moment after taking the photo of the dark sky over the sunny street in Lacey, I turned the opposite direction and took a photo of the sun shining through pine trees. Katie and I then took turns taking photographs from this spot, and we agreed this photo, taken by Katie, was the best.
