October 23: One Something

October 22: Tyler's Birthday

He came up to Seattle for a belated birthday celebration, and we each chose a cupcake (but only he got to blow out a candle).

October 21: Tea House

The Tea House Gallery has over a dozen lanterns hanging in front, but this is my favorite.

October 20: The Damp Returns

These mushrooms appeared in our lawn overnight....these are just a few of the many that now cover the parking strip.

October 10: Empty Office

This is a particularly nice seating area at PATH, taken on the weekend. The acres of cubicles are just out of the frame....

October 9: It's Come to This

A couple with small children browsing the new West Elm store in South Lake Union decided to lock up their stroller to a nearby bike rack. I guess nothing is safe anymore.

October 8: Fremont Humor

October 7: Cookie Day

Every Friday the PATH librarians set out an array of cookies, which makes the PATH library a popular spot. First thing in the morning my willpower is strong, but by late afternoon it's pretty tempting.

October 6: Cutting Edge

Food trucks are the hot new thing for foodies in New York and Seattle. This pop-up establishment in Wallingford is blurring the line between stand-while-you-eat food truck fare, and a sit down restaurant; patrons place their order at the window (protected from the rain by a canopy) and then take their food to a table in the nearby enclosed tent. Last night business was brisk.

October 5: Tanning Salon

This is a "treatment room" in a tanning salon, as viewed through the plate glass window that faces onto the street. I assume the tanning bed is on display as a visual enticement to people passing by. When I pass by it makes me think of CT scanners and hospitals.

October 4: Low Maintenance Landscaping

I appreciate that this building owner has gone to some effort to create a window box treatment that's visually interesting, not just another sad patch of dirt holding weeds and a few half-dead annuals. Ultimately, the artfulness can't make up for the fact that it's a window box full of...rocks.

October 1: Magnuson Park

It felt wintery on Lake Washington this morning.

September 30: Ready for Takeoff....Or Something

I've been puzzling over this funny shape cut into the sidewalk ever since PATH moved to South Lake Union in January 0f 2010. Now, finally, the mystery is revealed....it's another example of South Lake Union Public Art.
